Ball wants to rebuild his Premiership career at Manchester City

Ball, 27, who also played for Everton and Rangers, joins on a permanent deal and has signed a contract until the end of the season.

He successfully came through a week-long trial as he attempts to rebuild his Premiership career.

Ball won one England cap, playing against Spain in Sven-Goran Eriksson's first game in charge in February 2001.

He becomes manager Stuart Pearce's second signing of the transfer window, following Djamel Abdoun's move from French club Ajaccio to Eastlands.

Everton sold Ball to Rangers for �6.5m in the summer of 2001, but his career in Glasgow was ruined by a serious knee injury.

PSV signed Ball on a free transfer in 2005, but injuries and lack of form meant he made only a handful of appearances in Holland before accepting an offer to impress at City.
