Claudio Reyna scored the only goal of the game as a strong Manchester City side saw off Bradford City. Reyna slotted home after seven minutes when Trevor Sinclair found him in space on the edge of the six-yard box.
Bradford pressed forward themselves but young City keeper Joe Hart made some fine saves in the first half.
Bernardo Corradi impressed on his debut for City, who had further chances through Paul Dickov, Stephen Ireland and Georgios Samaras.
