Defender Distin has been with Manchester City for four seasons |
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce is hopeful Sylvain Distin will follow Joey Barton and Micah Richards and sign a new deal with the club. Pearce is keen for French defender Distin, 28, to stay even though contract negotiations have dragged on.
"We don't want to sell Sylvain. We want him to stay as he is an extremely good player," said Pearce.
"With Joey and Micah staying and five new players coming, hopefully that will push Sylvain in the right direction."
Pearce said the capture of Barton and Richards proved the club was making plans for the future.
"We would like Sylvain to be part of what we are trying to build here," Pearce said.
"Certainly Joey and Micah feel as though this club has a bright future - and so do I.
"We are now equipped to have a bash at the Premiership and a cup competition as well."
