Pearce has been impressed by the work Wigley has done |
Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce has promoted Steve Wigley to first-team coach, with former incumbent Derek Fazackerley moving to a scouting role. Wigley, who was manager of Southampton from August to December 2004, had been reserve-team boss at City last season.
"Steve has spent a season with us and has done some sterling work as reserve team manager," Pearce told the club's official website.
Frankie Bunn will manage the club's reserve team next season.
Pearce added of Wigley: "He has brought through young talent such as Micah Richards and also developed Stephen Ireland and Ishmael Miller.
"I believe he is ready for the role of first-team coach."
