Luton have moved swiftly to appoint Lil Fuccillo as their new manager to take over from departed Ricky Hill.

Fuccillo, like Hill, is a former Luton player and Hatters fans will hope the new manager's greater experience will help turn the club's season around.

And John Moore, who has been connected with Luton for most of the past 35 years, will be on hand as Fuccillo's assistant - with the pair taking charge immediately.

Fuccillo admitted the speed of developments at Kenilworth Road had taken him by surprise: "It's unbelievable. I was only brought to the club two weeks ago and here I am as manager of the club and it's totally unexpected.

"I was saddened to see Ricky leaving, both in terms of football and because he is a friend.

But he acknowledged there is little time for sympathy, with an FA Cup tie with Rushden imminent.

"We are a professional football club and we have to go about the game in the right way.

"The FA Cup match is an important one but the priority has to be getting league points so we can push ourselves back up the table."

Tactics

Fuccillo admitted he does not have a big enough squad to make any changes - but he has suggested he will hit Rushden with a different formation.

He said: "There aren't enough players on the books to play around with, so any changes will have to be tactical.

"We need to get this club moving in the right direction again. I have told the board I think there have been too many staff changes recently and that's why we've had no stability."
