Angelini is looking for a new manager at Almondvale

Livingston are hoping to have a new manager in place before Saturday's First Division match with Dundee.

Roberto Landi was sacked as boss after the Scottish Cup loss to East Stirling.

Tommaso Angelini, who is part of the consortium that took over the club in the summer, says talks have already started with prospective candidates.

Angelini said: "We are looking at various coaches with the hope of having somebody in place before the end of this week."

"We have an important game on Saturday against Dundee and we would like to have our new manager in place by then.

"It would be fair to say that we are going for a Scottish manager for various reasons and we're confident that we'll get somebody in place very soon."

Former Livingston manager John Robertson has been linked with a return to Almondvale but says he has not been approached by the club and has refused to be drawn on whether he would be interested in the vacancy.

Former Hearts coach Stephen Frail could also be in the frame and Angelini says the club are unlikely to appoint a player-manager.

However, the new incumbent is likely to be able to strengthen the player pool during the January transfer window as the club strive to gain promotion to the Scottish Premier League.

"We've been scouting all over the place, we know the positions we need to address and we are working really hard to bring at least a couple of players in January and give the new manager the extra tools to reach our targets," added Angelini.

Landi's tenure ended after five months, during which time Livingston had led the Division One table before slipping to their current position of fifth, six points behind leaders St Johnstone.

"Roberto and his team have been very professional, they worked with fantastic dedication," said Angelini.

"We thank them for their professionalism and we wish them the very, very best for the future.

"Unfortunately, things didn't really work out and we're all sad to see them leaving but we were trying to making the decision for the good of Livingston Football Club.

"It was a decision made after the bad defeat against East Stirling. The results lately have been really, really poor.

"We were at a point where the decision had to be made. We are sitting right in the middle of the table and our ambition is to try to go into the SPL this season.

"He (Landi) understood the reasons why we made that decision and there are absolutely no hard feelings."
