We are in title hunt - Benayoun

Yossi Benayoun
Benayoun has not won a trophy in his two years at Anfield

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun says his side will get over their slow start to the season after suffering two defeats in three league games.

The Reds' latest loss was 3-1 at home to Aston Villa on Monday.

"It's normal at a club like Liverpool that when you lose two or three games everyone will ask if we can win the league," said the 29-year-old.

"It's only the beginning and we can go on a run of winning a few games and everyone will speak differently."

He added: "But there is still a long way to go and anything can change."

We have to show we are a strong team with character to recover from this

Yossi Benayoun

Last season Rafa Benitez's side finished runners-up to Manchester United as they pushed the champions all the way in the race for the Premier League crown.

Israel international Benayoun believes his side have the character to turn around their fortunes.

"Last season we only lost two games so, of course, we are not used to it," he stated.

"But we have to show we are a strong team with character to recover from this and look from game to game and try to do our best and improve all the time."

"This is what we can do - work hard to play better."
