Keane bullish about Reds future

Robbie Keane has brushed off talk about his Liverpool future and says he will soon be banging in the goals.

The striker, 28, has struggled to hit top form since his 20.3m move from Spurs in the summer and has been linked with a return to White Hart Lane.

But the Irishman said: "I'm confident in my own ability and I know I'll score a lot of goals for this club.

"I'm not worried about it so I don't think anyone else should be. I know there's a lot more to come from me."

Keane has scored just four times in 23 appearances for Liverpool and was dropped for Saturday's Premier League game at Blackburn.

But Reds boss Rafa Benitez insists he has no plans to sell the former Wolves, Coventry, Leeds and Inter Milan player in the January transfer window.

Keane says he is committed to the Premier League leaders and believes it is only a matter of time before he starts finding the net on a regular basis.

"I'm not being big-headed but I've scored a lot of goals in the last 10 years and it's not just going to go away like that," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I never get down about things. Some players get their head down and cry but I'm too mentally strong for that.

"I've only been here a few months and sometimes it does take a little time to settle in. I prefer to be judged a little further down the line than now."

Keane was recalled to the Liverpool starting line-up for Tuesday's Champions League clash at PSV Eindhoven.

He played the entire game and set up David Ngog to score Liverpool's final goal in their 3-1 win.

"If I keep doing performances like that and keep being involved in the game it will only matter of time before I score a lot of goals," he said.

"I love scoring goals but I love being involved in the game and creating chances for other people.

"Since I've been here I've got a few good assists. As long as I keep doing well for the team, that's the most important thing."
