Gerrard has hinted he may end his career at Anfield
Former Liverpool midfielder Ian Callaghan has paid tribute to Steven Gerrard as one of the greatest players in the club's history.
The Reds captain made his debut 10 years ago this weekend and Callaghan thinks he would grace any of the great Liverpool teams of the past.
"When I think of him, I think of Roy of the Rovers, he just does everything," Callaghan told BBC Radio Merseyside.
"He'd walk into any team, the 60s team, the 70s team and the 80s team."
Callaghan, who made a record 857 appearances for the the Anfield club, says Gerrard will go down as one of the club's all-time greats.
"Stevie is one of the best players in the world. All the top clubs in Europe would want him.
"He's turned so many games around, and he's done it on umpteen occasions.
"He leads by example, I don't think he goes round shouting at people, he'll have a quiet word, but it's about what he does, and players have to be of a high standard when Stevie's around."
Ian Callaghan can be heard in a special programme: "Gerrard - 10 Years at the top" on BBC Radio Merseyside 95.8FM, 1485MW, DAB and bbc.co.uk/liverpool on Friday, November 28 at 1930 GMT.
