Kewell has been unable to find answers in Europe |
Liverpool say winger Harry Kewell will have a second operation on the foot injury he suffered in the World Cup. Kewell, 27, has not played since June when he scored in Australia's 2-2 draw with Croatia in the World Cup finals.
A Liverpool spokesman told the club's website: "A primary procedure to drain the infection was performed in July but it will require further surgery.
"Only after that will we have an accurate idea on the length of his rehabilitation period."
Kewell returned to Sydney earlier this month for treatment on the injury which has been diagnosed as septic arthritis, a bacterial infection in the joints of his left foot.
After helping Australia reach the last 16 of the World Cup, Kewell was unable to play in their second round defeat to eventual World Champions Italy.
He also aggravated his groin problem in last season's FA Cup final against West Ham and the then Socceroos coach, Guus Hiddink, admitted Kewell was not fully fit for the group stages of the World Cup.
