Real Zaragoza have confirmed that Liverpool have made offer for central defender Gabriel Milito, but insist the player is not for sale. Rafael Benitez has reportedly offered about 7.5m for the 24-year-old Argentina international.
Zaragoza sporting director Miguel Pardeza said Milito - who has a 20.7m buy-out clause in his contract - was a vital part of the side.
"He is fundamental for us and we want to keep him," he said.
Milito, who has two years left on his contract with the Spanish club, is a target of the Champions League winners, who are looking to strengthen their defence. Milito came close to signing for Real Madrid two years ago, but he failed the medical because of problems with his knee.
He is currently on holiday in Argentina, and Zaragoza are keen to secure his future when he returns to the club for pre-season training.
Pardeza has already offered Milito a contract extension which will see him become the highest earner at the Spanish club.
"We have offered him a three-year contract extension and he has taken some time to reflect," said Pardeza.
"But soon we will have an answer."
