Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has hinted at a move for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. The Spanish giants failed to tempt Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira to the Bernabeu during the summer.
But it appears they may now turn to Gerrard, who admitted being close to a move from Anfield in the close season.
Perez told the Sunday Mirror: "Steven Gerrard is a player I really like, he is the type of player who would suit the famous shirt of Real Madrid."
The 24-year-old Gerrard recently revealed he was close to leaving before new Reds boss Rafael Benitez persuaded him to stay.
Chelsea were known to be interested but Gerrard said there were "three or four good clubs" interested in him.
And reports say Real will make a move for Gerrard when the transfer window opens in January.
Should Gerrard move to the Bernabeu he will again link up with former Anfield star Michael Owen, who made the move to Spain in August, and England team-mates Jonathan Woodgate and David Beckham.
Beckham scored the winning goal for Real in their 1-0 win over Numancia on Saturday.
The England skipper scored with a free-kick to hand Real a second straight victory to start the season.
