Lincoln chairman Bob Dorrian blasts player wage demands

Lincoln City chairman Bob Dorrian believes lower league football could be heading for a crisis as a result of unrealistic player wage demands.

He told BBC Lincolnshire that unless steps were taken, clubs and players would face trouble in the near future.

"I think there's going to be a sea change, either next season or the season after that", said Dorrian.

"Clubs simply cannot sustain the wages agents and players are demanding, especially in the lower leagues."

He added: "There are so many footballers now out of contract and out of work and it's patently obvious that there will be more and more in the coming seasons if they don't start to get realistic."

And Dorrian, who became Lincoln chairman in June, insists that he is not alone in fearing the worst if the situation does not change.

"Most directors of most clubs who I speak to are horrified at the amount of money being asked by players and agents to join their club.

"Most of them are saying to me, "Sorry but they can get lost, this is what we can afford to pay, this is what's sustainable for our football club and this is what we're prepared to pay," and I think it will change."
