Orient are without a win in their last six league matches
Leyton Orient manager Martin Ling says the striker he has been in discussions with has until Wednesday to make a decision on whether to join the club.
Ling has been chasing the unnamed forward for a while but is keen to bolster his attacking options quickly.
The O's boss told BBC London 94.9: "I will know the answer from this player on Wednesday.
"I'm prepared to give him until then to see if he's fit enough to come and join us until the middle of January."
He added: "If he isn't I'll have to move elsewhere but we definitely need to focus on our attack and if it isn't the one I've been waiting for patiently then I'll have to go and get somebody else."
Orient have failed to record a victory in their last six league matches and their poor run of recent results leaves them struggling in 21st place in League One.
Ling hopes a fresh recruit will help ease them out of the drop zone.
"I think that one player would be a start. If we can focus on our attack and maybe build off the back of that then we'll see where we go from there."
