Downer's chance to shine
Simon Downer holds off Ian Cooke
Downer's (r) gets to show off his talents
Leyton Orient youngster Simon Downer moves one step closer to fulfilling manager Tommy Taylor's prophecy by currently training with Newcastle United.

Taylor had said earlier this month that Downer has all the attributes to make it to the top flight.

"He's a massive talent for the club and he's learning every day. He'll play in the Premier League when it's right for him," he said.

Now it seems that Magpies boss Bobby Robson asked the Third Division club for a look at the 19-year-old, according to reports on Orient's official website.

O's boss Tommy Taylor agreed to the arrangement, but will have the defender back in his squad before the end of the week.

The Brisbane Road outfit say there has been no talk between the two clubs of any possible sale.
