Chairman Milan Mandaric says he is beginning to reap the rewards after two troubled years at Leicester City.
The Foxes are 11 points clear at the top of League One and are 17 games unbeaten as they seek to return to the Championship at the first attempt.
"Last season was a very difficult pill to swallow but the base needed to be rebuilt and that's where we are," Mandaric told BBC Radio Leicester.
"It's been harder than I thought but we are on a mission and are all together."
Mandaric has already had to write off 14.2m from his time at the Walkers Stadium but says he has invested a lot more than that during his reign.
When things are not working you don't want to leave your friend when he is in trouble

"It's a lot of money but if you want the club forward then you have to support it financially," he said.
"In football you have to be prepared to invest.
"When you see that the organisation on and off the field is clicking, you are going in the right direction, you can see the potential and you know you are going in the right direction you have got to be happy with that and that is the situation here.
"I am very encouraged by what is happening at this point."
And although Mandaric admits times have been tough in the past two years, he said he has never got close to quitting.
"When things are not working you don't want to leave your friend when he is in trouble," he said.
"One day I will walk away but I want to leave something that is successful."
