Stoke will recall left-back Carl Dickinson from Leeds following Tuesday's game with Hereford.
United had hoped to extended the loan deal of the defender, 21, but Stoke have confirmed they will call him back.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson told the club's website: "That's what happens with loan players, but we're delighted with what he's done.
"He's helped us keep clean sheets and he really wants to play in the Premiership, which he is entitled to."
Dickinson will make his seventh appearance for the West Yorkshire club on Tuesday at Edgar Street.
Stoke manager Tony Pulis told the Stoke Sentinel: "He's done very well over the past month according to the reports we've been getting.
"We're grateful to Leeds for giving him that chance, but now we think it's the right time to bring him back here.
"Carl is very much a part of the future of this club and we want to get him involved again."
