Defender Richardson has come through the academy at Leeds

Defender Frazer Richardson has become the new captain of Leeds United, taking over from Jonathan Douglas.

The 25-year-old was given the armband for Leeds' opening-day win at Scunthorpe United after proving his leadership skills in pre-season.

"He is a respected figure amongst the younger players at the club," manager Gary McAllister told BBC Radio Leeds.

"He sets a great example on the training ground. So he ticks a lot of boxes for me."
