Ugandan tycoon upbeat on bid
Leeds are 78m in debt
Ugandan business tycoon Michael Ezra remains "optimistic" over his bid to buy cash-strapped Leeds United.

Newspaper reports have suggested Ezra has offered 30m for Leeds, who are 80m in debt, and is prepared to invest a further 30m to strengthen the squad.

Johnson Kasajja, the tycoon's technical director in Uganda, said: "He is definitely bidding for Leeds United.

"How far negotiations are progressing we are awaiting news from Mr Ezra but we remain very optimistic."

Leeds United have refused to comment on Ezra's bid.

Leeds financial director Neil Robson was reported to have confirmed to the Ugandan newspaper Sunday Vision that that the club had been in contact with Ezra over his interest.

"We are still trying to find out a few things about Ezra and there are a few things we want to tell him but unfortunately he has not come back to us," Robson told the government-backed paper.

But when contacted by the BBC, Leeds refused to elaborate.

Businessman Ezra first got involved in sport last year by sponsoring the national junior athletics team in the World Cross Country Championships in Lausanne in Switzerland.

He also formed an athletics team and has been heavily involved in sponsoring boxing.
