Ridsdale says he won't be a scapegoat |
Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale says he will not quit his post despite receiving death threats from angry fans. Ridsdale came under more pressure to quit on Saturday when Leeds slumped to a fourth straight Premiership defeat as they lost 3-2 to Middlesbrough.
Ridsdale was confronted in the directors box during the match by supporters and was forced to watch the second half from the safety of the boardroom.
"I felt I was becoming a distraction (on Saturday) and it would be better if I was out of the way," said Ridsdale.
"But my position is clear. I understand the thoughts and feelings of the supporters and it's my responsibility to sort it out.

"I don't want to leave Leeds United in the lurch and I fully intend to put things right.
"If the supporters want a scapegoat, I can only ask what that will achieve. If I was driven out, what then?
"I have no intention of running away. When I go I'd like to think it will be when Leeds are flying again."
Ridsdale admits he has received death threats and that events are taking their toll on him and his family.
He added: "It's a regrettable side of football and it is affecting my health and my family's health.
"I do understand - I feel the same as the supporters - but we're working to put it right."
