![]() | Wednesday, 28 June, 2000, 13:48 GMT Kingstonian's Wembley joy continues ![]() Kingstonian celebrate FA Trophy final win over Kettering Kingstonian won at Wembley for the second successive season in the FA Umbro Trophy and finished a respectable fifth in the Conference despite an end of season fixture pile-up. It was another amazing chapter in manager Geoff Chapple's career which has seen him win the FA Trophy five times in seven years. The K's were good value for their 3-2 Wembley win over Kettering which saw them fight back from behind to win The only minor disappointment on the cup front was losing 2-0 to Doncaster in the MacMillan Trophy final at Belle Vue. The K's looked like potential title challengers early in the season, chalking up a string of impressive results, especially away from home. But in the end, the strain of playing so many matches took its toll, though few clubs would be disappointed to have achieved so much over the course of the season. David Leworthy banged in 17 goals and was well supported by Geoff Pitcher (13) and Eddie Akuamoah (12) while Amara Simba and Phil Wingfield both notched nine apiece. |
