Pat Fenlon has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Kilmarnock.
Bohemians boss Fenlon almost became the Dundee United manager in January, after Craig Levein left Tannadice to take the Scotland job.
However, Fenlon's hopes were dashed after the clubs failed to reach agreement, with Bohemians seeking more than £200,000 in compensation.
BBC Scotland has been told that Kilmarnock and Fenlon could hold talks if Bohemians lower their demands.
As yet, no official contact has been made between the clubs, and a source close to the Bohemians manager has told BBC Scotland that Fenlon is also wanted by a club abroad.
Bohemians are currently in fifth place in the Airtricity League Premier Division in the Republic of Ireland.
Kilmarnock have yet to appoint a new manager after caretaker boss Jimmy Calderwood helped them avoid relegation from the Scottish Premier League on the final day of last season.
German World Cup winner Thomas Haessler has decided against becoming Kilmarnock boss because of family commitments.
And having missed out on Haessler and first target Blackburn coach Steve Kean, Kilmarnock have also been linked with Gus MacPherson, who spent 11 years as a Kilmarnock player.
MacPherson, 41, left St Mirren at the end of last season, having been with the Paisley club for seven years.
