Killie close Kyle comments spat

Kilmarnock captain Kevin Kyle
Kyle reacted angrily to public criticism from club chairman Michael Johnston

Kilmarnock have imposed an undisclosed sanction on Kevin Kyle for newspaper interviews given by the club captain.

Chairman Michael Johnston was annoyed by the comments attributed to Kyle, while the forward reacted angrily to being branded a troublemaker.

Players' union chief executive Fraser Wishart had been negotiating with Johnston after a grievance procedure was taken out by the disgruntled Kyle.

The Ayrshire club are keen to move on and say the matter is now closed.

Kyle, in the Scottish Sun, accused Johnston of "discreetly" asking him to discuss the tactics and team selection of former manager Jim Jefferies.

This allegation was refuted at length by Johnston on BBC Radio Scotland, with the chairman insisting it was Kyle who raised the subject.

Johnston was also disappointed that the striker had chosen to criticise the Ayrshire outfit over the lack of a club doctor in a Daily Record article.

The chairman described both reports as "disruptive".

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Wishart revealed: "All parties are happy the matter is resolved.

"I think the new Killie manager Jimmy Calderwood will be the happiest.

"The most important thing is it gets the club captain back concentrating on playing football again. For Kevin he's just happy to put the last two weeks behind him."
