Russell scored 24 goals for Airdrie United last season
Kilmarnock will step up their search for a new striker after Allan Russell fell victim to a knee injury.
The recent signing from Airdrie United has ruptured medial ligaments at the club's Italian training camp and faces eight weeks on the sidelines.
"It's important that we bring in a new striker after Allan's injury," said manager Jim Jefferies.
"We have made a few enquiries and now we are waiting to hear back and see what develops."
Having released Paul Di Giacomo and Gary Wales, Killie are light in the attacking department.
Jefferies had an approach for Linfield's Peter Thompson turned down, while former Bordeaux forward Joel Thomas has been on trial with the Ayrshire club.
Meanwhile, Killie beat local side Barga 1-0 in a warm-up match, with Allan Johnston netting the only goal.
