Ipswich defender Damien Delaney avoids comeback target

Ipswich left-back Damien Delaney has refused to set a target for his return from a serious injury.

The 29-year-old has undergone two operations within the last seven days to remove a blood clot in his leg after a collision in training.

He told the club's website: "There's no real guide to follow when it comes to the recovery.

"I don't want to set a timeline but I want to get back as soon as possible and I'm optimistic I can do that."

The Irishman suffered the injury while training with his team-mates in Holland last week but thought he only had a dead leg.

The extent of the problem was diagnosed quickly and now the defender is on the road to recovery.

"There's no fitness work I can do. I've got to get my strength back first and go from there," he said.

"The surgeon assured me that as they had operated within a few hours of the problem, there should be nothing to worry about in relation to a reaction."
