Ipswich Town unable to sign Richard Wright replacement

Richard Wright
Wright's injury has left Ipswich short of options

Ipswich have been told they will not be allowed special dispensation from the Football League to sign a goalkeeper on loan, BBC Radio Suffolk understands.

The club was hoping to bring in cover for Richard Wright who will be out for up to four months with a knee injury.

However, Town have been informed that, as they have two professional keepers at the club, they will have to wait until the January transfer window.

Arran Lee-Barratt, 25, is likely to start at Bristol City on Saturday.

He replaced former England goalkeeper Wright during Sunday's 2-1 win at Cardiff City.

Wright's injury came just five days after the impressive Asmir Begovic was recalled from a loan spell at Portman Road by his parent club Portsmouth.

Ian McLoughlin is Ipswich's other registered goalkeeper, although he is yet to make a first-team appearance.

His fellow Irishman Brian Murphy will sign from Bohemians in January but is unable to play before then.
