Jim Magilton is close to adding Miller and Alexander to his squad

Former Scotland international Alexander, 29, rejected a new deal at Cardiff City in May and has signed a three-year deal with Ipswich.

Alexander had a medical at Ipswich on Monday as did striker Tommy Miller, 28, who is set to sign for Town on Thursday after passing a medical on Tuesday.

Miller is available on a free transfer after being released by Sunderland.

Miller signed for the Suffolk club six years ago in a �800,000 deal from Hartlepool but moved to Sunderland in the summer of 2005.

He is out of contract after being released by the Black Cats and has chosen the Championship club following talks with several interested parties.

He scored 37 goals in 139 appearances for Town during his first spell there.

Alexander joined Cardiff from Livingston for �200,000 in 2001 and went on to make over 230 appearances for the Bluebirds.

He made his Scotland debut as a second half substitute in March 2006 in a 3-1 friendly defeat against Switzerland.

Alexander's arrival at Portman Road could see current Ipswich first-choice keeper Lewis Price leave the Championship club.
