Richards has established himself as an Ipswich regular |
Ipswich defender Matt Richards has agreed a new three-year contract extension at Portman Road. The 21-year-old has been with Town since the age of 10 and will now remain at the club until the summer of 2009.
Manager Joe Royle told the club website: "We are delighted that Matt has agreed to a new contract.
"With his superb fitness, good touch and lovely left foot, I certainly see his future here in midfield, I always felt he was better suited there."
Richards was a product of the Academy system and the youngest player to represent the club in Europe when he made his debut against Avenir Beggen in the Uefa Cup in August 2002 aged 17.
He has made 23 appearences for the Tractor Boys this season, scoring four times and has represented England at under-21 level.
