Royle is hoping Diallo will boost Ipswich's defence |
Ipswich manager Joe Royle has signed defender Drissa Diallo on a free transfer in a two-year deal after the club had a Football League transfer tribunal lifted. The 30-year-old has been in negotiations with the club for some time but was unable to complete the move until Ipswich came out of administration.
Diallo, Royle's first signing as Ipswich boss, was signed by Burnley in January and made 18 appearance for the Clarets, but the Lancashire club were unable to secure him on a long-term deal.
Royle told the club's website: "We conceded too many goals last season and I'm confident we have taken a step towards solving that problem by bringing Drissa to the club."
A disappointed Burnley chairman Barry Kilby said the club did their best to keep Diallo.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We made our best offer, but Ipswich were in the hunt and, although he wanted to stay at Burnley, they offered better terms than we could.
"It does stick in the throat a little bit. They've paid some creditors just five per cent and now they're free and in the marketplace, whereas we're working through the ITV Digital crisis and there is a sense of injustice there."
