Ipswich Town captain Matt Holland has admitted he is in the dark about his future. A host of Premiership clubs - Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Charlton, West Bromwich Albion and Southampton - are known to be admirers of the Republic of Ireland star.
Friday's Daily Mirror reported Holland was close to joining Charlton, but the midfielder told this website that he knew nothing about the Premiership club's interest.
"I haven't heard anything," said Holland. "There is bound to be speculation because the financial situation dictates what is going on."
Since dropping out of the Premier League just under a year ago, cash-strapped Ipswich have slipped into administration
Their dire financial position means the club are regarded as a special case, and could sell players to Premiership clubs now, despite the transfer window being closed.
Holland has three years left on his contract and is one of Ipswich's highest wage earners.
"We have had meetings with the PFA and the chairman David Sheepshanks has spoken to the players about the financial situation we are in," added Holland
"The players have also taken a deferred payment on their wages.
"We know that if promotion isn't achieved then there will cuts and more players will have to be sold."
Ipswich are three points behind sixth-placed Wolves in the Division One table and Holland is still hopeful the Suffolk club can achieve promotion via the play-offs.
"The ideal scenario would be that I would playing with Ipswich next season in the Premiership.
"But obviously I am ambitious and I want to play in the Premiership again. I'm next 29 next month, so it's important that happens sooner rather later.
"But if doesn't, players will have to be sold at the end of the season. It might be me or it might be other players."
Earlier this season, Matt Holland turned down a 4m transfer to Aston Villa, saying he was happy at Ipswich and wanted to help the club make an immediate return to the Premiership.
