Brown has been placed at the helm at Hull

Parkinson was sacked as boss on Monday after five months in charge, prompting 47-year-old Brown's promotion.

And even though he was sacked at Derby after seven months, City say he will be considered for the permanent job.

Colin Murphy, who was Parkinson's assistant, has now reverted to his previous role with the club's centre of excellence and will also assist Brown.

"Phil will be part of the recruitment and assessment process in finding a new manager," read a club statement.

"Phil will be in charge for our visit to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, and for the length of time required to undergo the full recruitment process.

"That procedure is now under way."

With Hull currently five points adrift of safety in the Championship, Brown is aware that he is in the perfect position to underline his credentials as Parkinson's permanent successor.

Earlier in the week, Brown, who joined the club as first-team coach in October, said: "I do want to return to management but unfortunately not in these circumstances."

However, he added: "The objective is to stay in the Championship and we've got a 20-game mini-series now to get points on the board. Hopefully the club will stay in this division.

"Of course I remain open-minded (about taking the role on permanently). It would be an opportunity for any man in or out of football to be able to come to a great football club.

"There's no doubt about it, from what I've seen of this football club so far, the set-up is fantastic and geared towards certainly Championship football, if not higher."
