Huddersfield Town defender Joe Skarz has agreed a new contract extension with the League One club.

The 18-year-old has signed a three year deal that will keep him at the Galpharm Stadium until 2011.

Assistant manager Ronnie Jepson told the club website: "Like all the other young players we have he will have the opportunity to progress."

The Huddersfield-born defender follows Andy Booth and Matt Glennon in extending their deals.

Jepson is predicting a big future for the teenager: "He deserves his three-year deal because he's risen through the ranks and has worked hard.

"He's now reached the next stage and he should continue that progression with us to the Championship.

"The young players here are technically very good, but they need the heart and the drive to take them to the next level like Andy Booth and Jon Stead and that's what we'll be trying to get out of them."
