Jackson hails Booth as a 'legend'
By Paul Fletcher

Huddersfield manager Andy Booth has had two spells at the club
He will have a massive role to play this season

Peter Jackson on Andy Booth
Huddersfield held Spanish side Real Sociedad to a goalless draw in Andy Booth's testimonial match on Tuesday.

And current Town Peter Jackson boss is no doubt as to the 32-year-old contribution the club, telling BBC Sport: "Andy Booth has been a legend.

"He had left for Sheffield Wednesday during my first spell in charge but since I have been back at the club he has been outstanding."

The testimonial match drew 7,142 people to the Galpharm Stadium.

Booth has made more than 300 appearances for Huddersfield.

The striker first signed for his hometown club in 1992 and spent four years at the club before Sheffield Wednesday paid 2.7m for him in July 1996.

Five years at Hillsborough and a loan spell at Tottenham followed before Booth returned to the Terriers in March 2001.

And Jackson is confident that Booth will play a key player in the forthcoming season as Huddersfield look to put behind them the disappointment of losing to Barnsley in last season's play-offs.

"Andy will have a massive role to play this season but we have got real competition up front this season," added Jackson.

"In addition to Andy, we have Pawel Abbot, Gary Taylor-Fletcher, John McAliskey and Luke Beckett, who has joined this summer.

"Luke scored something like 18 goals in 27 starts on loan at Oldham last season so I'm looking for big things from him."

In addition to boosting his forward line, Jackson has signed goalkeeper Matt Glennon from St Johnstone.

"I felt that last season we did not manage enough clean sheets to secure promotion," added the Terriers boss.

"Matt is very highly rated and from what I have seen of him he has looked very good so far. He will provide good competition for Paul Rachubka."
