Welch has been with Histon since the summer of 2008
Histon goalkeeper Joe Welch says he is relieved to have resolved his future at the Blue Square Premier club.
The 22-year-old has signed a new one-year deal following the return to the Glass World of John Beck.
Welch told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's nice to go into the summer knowing where you are going to be.
"Four months ago I was out of the team, I wasn't training or playing and I was thinking I was going to have to start again elsewhere."
Welch joined Histon in the summer of 2008 as understudy to former number one Danny Naisbitt.
He was frozen out of the squad by former boss Alan Lewer, despite Naisbitt leaving to Brighton on loan.
However, Beck has hinted that Welch will step up to first choice for next season.
"It's very frustrating sitting around and it's two seasons where I've done two or three games on the bounce and then gone out of the team again," he said.
"But it makes it all worthwhile as this year it seems like I've got a break and I'm relishing the opportunity."
