Hibs boss Colin Calderwood defends team after defeat

Hibernian manager Colin Calderwood insists his players do not lack experience after a crushing 3-0 league defeat by Dundee United at Tannadice.

"Not at all," said Calderwood. "We're not going to let go of this lightly.

"It's seems obvious, but it's not simple to do - it's hard to win a game of football - and it's hard for us to keep a clean sheet at the moment.

"In the short-term, I'm going to have to accept there will be a few doubters and, in the long-term, there won't be."

Hibs' Danny Galbraith fired a good chance over the bar before Jon Daly snatched an opener after 13 minutes in the match at Tannadice.

Craig Conway made it two, and Johnny Russell finished the Edinburgh visitors off with nine minutes of the match remaining.

Calderwood's men have now gone over 10 hours without scoring and find themselves second-bottom of the Scottish Premier League table, two points ahead of basement club Hamilton, but having played two more matches.

The Hibs boss insisted his side have the necessary qualities to banish their poor run of form but need to weed out the basic errors in defending.

"What we're doing in some situations at the back is bamboozling and we're not setting the tone," said Calderwood.

"What shouldn't happen is what happened in the second half of this game - to be behind in the fashion we were. That's where the big improvement is required.

"The second goal was hurtful, but the first one the players have to do better.

"I was pleased with how we started, in terms of trying to get shots and crosses in. We had one or two half opportunities.

"But I've got to produce a team that gives the fans hope and keeps them coming back."
