Midfielder Victor Palsson joins Hibs from Liverpool
Calderwood thinks Victor Palsson has terrific potential
Hibernian have signed Icelandic midfielder Victor Palsson from Liverpool on an 18-month deal.
The 19-year-old told the Hibs website: "Edinburgh is a great city and everything about the move indicates it is the right decision for me."
Palsson can also operate in defence and is looking forward to playing at Easter Road again.
"I played for Iceland under-21s against Scotland at Easter Road a few months ago," he said.
"And I was really impressed with the atmosphere; it is a special stadium.
"As soon as I was aware of Hibernian's interest, I was really keen to join the club and to work with the manager; it is a really exciting move for me.
"I believe the Scottish league will suit my way of playing and I am looking forward to playing for Hibernian."
Calderwood added: "Victor is a young player with terrific potential and a player who has been on our radar for a long time.
"He has got a great pedigree and we are pleased to be able to bring him to the football club."
Rangers are the latest club to be linked with Hibs' top scorer Derek Riordan, but the under-fire boss, whose team have not scored this year, would prefer the player to stay at the club beyond the end of the season.
Calderwood has already signed Martin Scott from Ross County and Matt Thornhill from Nottingham Forest, and brought in on-loan Celtic defender Richie Towell this week.
The Hibs boss signalled efforts will continue to strengthen his squad by Monday evening's close of the January transfer window.
"We've got to try," he said. "There might be something that pops up between now and then that's completely fresh and new. We'll go right to the end."
