Colin Calderwood found signs of encouragement in the defeat at Pittodrie

Hibernian manager Colin Calderwood remained upbeat despite losing his first game in charge in the 4-2 drubbing by Aberdeen.

"The reaction was good to being 4-0 down away from home; it was a difficult situation but the spirit was there to come back," said Calderwood.

"What I don't like is being 4-0 down - it's as simple as that. Repetition and organisation will get us there.

"They are all good defenders and midfielders, I quite like what I see."

The visitors endured a miserable first half in front of a poor crowd at Pittodrie, falling behind to goals from Chris Maguire and in-form Scott Vernon.

Vernon added a third after the break before Paul Hartley slotted home the fourth from the spot.

But Hibs reduced the deficit through Colin Nish and Sol Bamba's injury-time effort made the scoreline a little more respectable.

"A bit more unity and cohesion will help everybody," said Calderwood.

"You don't want to be beaten. Hopefully (next week) we'll see a change in performance and a change in result.

"It'll be a work in progress, from where we are now and where we want to be in six months' time.

"We want to do it as quickly as possible and the players have the right mindset. That's what I like about them."

Calderwood praised the impact of substitute Derek Riordan, who gave the visitors some much-needed spark.

"He did tremendously for the first goal and he's an obvious talent. It's a shame, because he hadn't trained all week," the Hibs boss said.

"It was a risk putting him on for that length of time."
