Hibs boss John Hughes questions Celtic penalty decision

Hibs boss John Hughes cast doubt over the penalty scored by Robbie Keane in the 1-0 defeat by Celtic.

Striker Anthony Stokes was penalised for a high boot in a challenge on Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady.

"It was disappointing with so much at stake. Stokesy's eyes never came off the ball," Hughes told BBC Scotland.

"He's gone to hook it and the boy's got his body in there. If anything it's an indirect free-kick. But you never see them given in the box."

Hughes praised his side for their organisation and spirit, adding that they passed the ball well and tried to play in the right manner.

"Derek Riordan hit the bar late-on and Stokesy had a good chance in the first half," he added.

"But it was a good game and it was interesting watching Keane's movement up there, and I felt my two centre-backs Bamba and Thicot played exceptionally well.

"Two teams trying to play football in the right way and I was disappointed with the number of yellow cards.

"There wasn't too much in the game and I felt both sides tried to play the game in the right manner," said the Hibs manager.

"It was end to end and we gave as good as we got. I'm disappointed, obviously, for the players because they put so much effort into it.

"I felt it was a really dubious penalty decision but one that's now behind us; the three points go to Celtic and we just need to get on with it."
