Szamotulski was impressive during his time at Dundee United

Polish Goalkeeper Grzegorz Szamotulski has agreed to join Hibernian until the end of the season.

Hibs will complete the signing of Szamotulski, 32, upon receiving international clearance.

However, striker Abdessalam Benjelloun could leave Hibs for United Arab Emirates club Al Shaab.

"I've been looking for some time for an experienced goalkeeper and Grzegorz fits that description perfectly," boss Mixu Paatelainen told the Hibs website.

The Pole trained with Hibs in December but returned home after failing to agree contract terms.

Szamotulski gained Scottish Premier League experience last season on loan at Dundee United as cover for compatriot Lukasz Zaluska.

After impressing during the six-month spell at Tannadice, the former Poland international left to join Preston North End under freedom of contract in February.

However, a knee injury scuppered his Deepdale career and he moved to Israeli side FC Ashdod, becoming a free agent in November.

"I'm pleased to have reached agreement with Hibernian and am now looking forward to playing again in the SPL," said Szamotulski.

"I enjoyed my last spell in this league and I'm delighted to be joining one of the leading sides in Scotland."

Meanwhile, Morrocan Benjelloun could be about to leave continue his spell away from Easter Road, with the president of United Arab Emirates club Al Shaab saying the forward has agreed to join them in principle.

The 23-year-old is due to return to Edinburgh on 9 January after spending the first half of the season on loan at Belgian club Charleroi.

But Al Shaab chairman Ibrahim Bahouir said: "Al Shaab has reached an agreement in principle with Abdessalam Benjelloun.

"No contract has yet been signed between the two parties. But we have a desire in common to conclude this deal."

A switch to the UAE would see Benjelloun link up with Easter Road team-mate and compatriot Merouane Zemmama.

Zemmama was allowed to play this season on loan in the UAE on compassionate grounds.

Charleroi are now managed by John Collins, but the former Hibs boss has decided against extending Benjelloun's stay in Belgium.
