Yantorno eager for Hibs success

Hibs midfielder Fabian Yantorno says the Edinburgh club are playing so well, they could do it with their eyes shut.

The Uruguayan playmaker admits his absence from the club's recent run, which has earned them 11 points from five matches, has been frustrating.

Yantorno joined Hibs from doomed Gretna earlier this year, but has been ruled out due to knee ligament problems.

Yantorno told the club website: "We have players that can play with their eyes closed and that is important."

Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen decided that 26-year-old Yantorno should work on his match fitness with the club's reserve team, though the player started the 2-1 home defeat to Inverness in November.

It has been a little frustrating but I don't think it has been a bad season, although I am still waiting for an opportunity to show that I can do a good job for Hibernian.

But, the midfielder has remained patient for his opportunity to form part of Paatelainen's winning side.

"We have gone five games without losing and that is never easy in this league, but I think that there is a lot more to come from our team, the best is yet to be seen," said Yantorno.

"It has been a little frustrating but I don't think it has been a bad season, although I am still waiting for an opportunity to show that I can do a good job for Hibernian.

"I train very hard to make sure I am fit enough to take the opportunity when it comes and I will do my best. I think I have now gone past the injury I had and reached full fitness.

"Perhaps that was not the case two months ago but I'm quite happy now with the work I'm doing in training so I know I can take the opportunity to do my best for the team.

"But I do think that I have something to give to Hibernian and so I just keep working as hard as I can."

Meanwhile, Paatelainen has said that he is "hopeful" striker Steven Fletcher will be fit for Saturday's match at Ibrox against Rangers.

The 21-year-old was carried off the pitch with a shin injury during last weekend's win over Hamilton.

Fletcher has scored six goals so far this season and has been linked with a move away from Easter Road in the January transfer window.
