Abdessalam Benjelloun may not be welcome back at Hibs after branding the manager's tactics 40 years out of date.
"Mixu Paatelainen is a Finn who plays football in the style of the English game in the 1960s," said the Moroccan striker, who is on loan at Charleroi.
"He very much favours a long-ball game. And with this style of play, technically-skilled players like myself don't have too much of a chance.
"Maybe I will stay at Charleroi in January or maybe I will leave."
The 23-year-old endured a miserable time at Easter Road last season, scoring just once and suffering from a series of injuries and a loss of form.
In the previous campaign, Benjelloun scored 14 goals, including a brace in the 5-1 League Cup final win over Kilmarnock.
But his fortunes have hardly improved during his loan move to Belgium, where he has found the net once during another injury-hit period.
"The Scottish league is another world," he added. "The game is quick, tough and physical and is on a different planet to Belgian football.
"The Belgian league is skilful and strong, with a high standard. It's different to Scotland where they play at 100mph. Here the game is slower and more thoughtful.
"It's a complicated transfer but Charleroi have the option to buy me by 10 January. Then it is possible I will return to Hibs - or even join another club."
