Shiels joined Hibs from Arsenal in the summer of 2004 |
Hibernian manager John Collins insists midfielder Dean Shiels is very much in his plans for next season. The 22-year-old has two years of his Easter Road contract to run but a number of SPL clubs have been linked with the Northern Irishman.
"There's always speculation when players are not starting," Collins told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"Dean hasn't had a long run in the team because of injuries. But he is certainly wanted here."
Inverness had announced their plans to approach Hibs about Shiels and Aberdeen were interested at the start of the season.
However, Shiels is a big favourite with the fans at Easter Road and the former Arsenal trainee has scored nine goals this term.
"Dean's goal-scoring record is terrific, it must be the best at the club in terms of goals to minutes on the pitch," added Collins.
"He's a good finisher, very cool, not afraid to take a shot."
Speculation on the future of Shiels increased following reports of dressing room unrest at Hibs last month.
But the player has started Hibs' last three league matches after recovering from a thigh injury.
And he said: "Personally, I want to stay at Hibs, that's all that matters to me. As long as I am wanted here I will stay."
