Beuzelin stares in disbelief as he is shown a red card

The 28-year-old was shown a straight red card for a foul on Kris Boyd, but Hibs launched an appeal on the basis of wrongful dismissal.

But their case was thrown out after referee Charlie Richmond told the SFA he had called the situation correctly.

An SFA statement said Beuzelin had denied "an obvious goal-scoring opportunity" against Rangers.

"Charlie Richmond was able to view a DVD of the match incident supplied by Hibernian FC and confirmed he was entirely satisfied with his decision," it said.

"In the context of the application of the law, there was no error at all by the referee.

"The player is therefore suspended for Hibernian's match against Kilmarnock on 5 May."

Hibs manager John Collins had said: "we've had a look at it and we think the same now as we did at the time - that it wasn't worthy of a red card."

Meanwhile, defender Jay Shields been told he has no future at Easter Road.

The 22-year-old right-back broke into the first team last season but spent the second half of the current campaign at Dundee.

Shields was among a group of players who sought talks with Hibs chairman Rod Petrie last month, when they expressed concern about how Collins was running team affairs.

And he told the Scotsman: "I met the manager and was told I was not getting a new deal.

"What was disappointing was that he said I might have got a new contract if I had not gone to the chairman.

"The manager also said that he couldn't see me getting into the team ahead of Steven Whittaker and, with Kevin McCann doing well, he couldn't have three players in the same position.

"That's fair enough, but it was disappointing that he used the meeting with the chairman as an excuse as well."
