Michael Stewart will have the chance to return to the Premiership |
Hibernian midfielder Michael Stewart has been given the chance to return to the English Premiership with newly-promoted Sunderland. Stewart, 26, was told last month his Hibs contract would not be renewed, but former Manchester United team-mate Roy Keane is interested.
"Michael's had some issues with Hibs and we have invited him down for a week," said the Black Cats manager.
"We'll take a look at him, he'll look around and we'll see how it pans out."
Stewart, who has three caps for Scotland, joined Hibs after being released by Manchester United in 2005.
Hibs boss John Collins told Stewart he was free to find another club in April, but insisted it had nothing to do with dressing room unrest at Easter Road.
Reports suggested 17 players complained to chairman Rod Petrie about Collins' training methods and team selection.
Hibs players subsequently issued a collective public apology to the manager.
