Simon Brown has signed a three-year deal |
Hibernian have finalised the signing of English goalkeeper Simon Brown on a three-year deal. The 27-year-old former Tottenham trainee ended a five-year spell at Colchester to try his luck in Scotland.
"Simon is a good goalkeeper who I think we are very fortunate to have signed," Hibernian manager Tony Mowbray told the club website.
"You have to be sure that you're going to get a performance week in, week out and Simon, I think, will deliver."
Mowbray moved quickly for Brown when it became clear that the out-of-contract Daniel Andersson, last season's first choice, was not coming back to the club.
Republic of Ireland international Nick Colgan, who is also out of contract, also turned down Mowbray's offer to return for pre-season training.
"Daniel and Nick were both in an unfortunate situation but I couldn't go offering them a two or three-year contact without having actually seen them perform.," Mowbray told the Edinburgh Evening News on Wednesday.
"It is all right speaking to people and watching clips on video.
"The offer was there for them to come back and train, neither turned up and I have to do what is best for the football club."
