Hereford goalkeeper Adam Bartlett insists referee Geoff Eltringham was right to rule out a Bury goal during Saturday's 1-1 draw.
The strike from a free-kick was ruled out because the set-piece was taken before the referee signalled for play to begin again.
Bartlett told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "He told them that it was going to be taken when he blew his whistle.
"But they took it early and to be fair to the ref he stuck to his guns."
He added: "It was a bit of good fortune for us the ref had told them what was going to happen."
Bartlett said the Bulls were relieved to claim what was only their fifth point of the season.
"It wasn't always pretty but as a group of players we put in a real big shift," he said.
"The lads worked their socks off, right from the front to the back.
"It was tough when we went down to ten men when Kenny Lunt got sent off.
"It's not the end of the world to come away with a point, but we would have liked all three."
