Turner happy to wait on signings

Hereford United's manager Graham Turner is prepared to play the waiting game over summer signings.

He told BBC Hereford and Worcester he was pleased with progress, even though none of his targets has yet signed.

"I'm reasonably close in one or two cases of getting something sorted out - that's provided nobody else comes in at the last minute," he said.

"I do think we've made progress with one or two, but there's nothing definite at the moment."

With the club heading into League One next season, Turner says it's inevitable he and coach John Trewick will be looking at better-quality players.

But he admits the Bulls face greater competition to land their targets now, especially as many of their League One rivals have far bigger budgets.

Despite this, he remains hopeful that a lot of the spadework he has been doing in recent weeks will produce a positive outcome.

"I've talked to the agents of one or two of our existing players and of quite a number of players we would like to join us," he said.

I'm in desperate need now of a Saturday fixture just to get the players acclimatised to playing on a Saturday afternoon

Hereford manager Graham Turner
"There's a lot of ground work being done - whether it comes to fruition over the next few weeks remains to be seen.

"But at the moment I believe we are looking at some good quality players."

United have confirmed another pre-season friendly, meanwhile, as they entertain Bristol City at Edgar Street on Tuesday 22 July.

With matches against Wolves, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, as well as an away trip to old rivals Kidderminster Harriers already lined up, Turner is satisfied with the programme.

He is, though, keen to find at least one more game against quality opposition.

"I'm in desperate need now of a Saturday fixture just to get the players acclimatised to playing on a Saturday afternoon.

"But when the bigger clubs offer you a date you either take them or you don't and all of them so far have been mid-week."
