Hearts manager Jim Jefferies has no plans to retire

Hearts manager Jim Jefferies
Jefferies hopes to remain in football beyond team management

By Brian McLauchlin

Jim Jefferies says he has no plans to take his retirement any time soon.

The Hearts manager turns 60 on Monday and had previously thought that it might be the right time to retire after another couple of years.

But he now says he will continue in management as long as he still feels the desire.

"As long as I have got the desire and the drive to go and compete then I will not put a time limit on it," Jefferies told BBC Scotland.

"I always thought that if you get to 62 then maybe think about it then. But if I still have the drive then I will continue."

Walter Smith last week said that he could remain involved in football despite standing down as Rangers manager in the summer.

And Jefferies says that he too would like to stay in the game in some capacity.

"Once the team managers' affairs have gone then I think everybody would want to stay in the game," he said.

"Wherever that is, or whatever job it is, if I get the opportunity, of course its something that I would consider.

"That's not the case just now. I am enjoying the job at the moment and certainly hope to be doing this for the next few years."
