Hearts manager Jim Jefferies upset by injury-time loss

Shell-shocked Hearts manager Jim Jefferies felt his side were unlucky to slip to a 2-1 injury-time defeat by Rangers at Tynecastle.

Rudi Skacel's opener was cancelled out by Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith saw Rangers clinch an unlikely win.

"It's a game we didn't deserve to lose. I'm disappointed about the two goals and disappointed about the extra five minutes," he told BBC Scotland.

"And I'm disappointed about the free-kick awarded (before Naismith's goal)."

Referee Craig Thomson awarded a free-kick to Rangers when his Hearts namesake challenged Sasa Papac for the ball.

"It's a 50-50 and Craig was no higher than Papac, but he's won the ball first," said Jefferies.

"If it had maybe been the other way round maybe it wouldn't have been given.

"But my players gave me everything today and I don't think they deserved to lose the game."

Jefferies was pleased with his side's display for the majority of the game.

"We took a wee while to settle today but Adrian Mrowiec was outstanding at the back.

"We got the goal, which helped our cause and, at 1-1, we had the best chance of the game.

"Kevin Kyle's put a header over the bar that's usually bread and butter for him. We were just waiting for the net to bulge."

Substitute Lafferty found the net with a free-kick that sped past the Hearts wall and Jefferies was unimpressed with his side's defending.

MY SPORT: DEBATE

"It was soft because they've turned their backs and it's went underneath us; a side-footed shot from a free-kick," he said.

"You can't blame the goalie because the wall should be doing its job.

"And everything wee Naisy touches at the moment seems to be coming up roses. That should never have happened because I don't think five minutes of injury-time was warranted.

"Maybe the referee was counting on the David Obua time, but Obua was receiving treatment off the pitch.

"There were five substitutions and I don't think there was any time-wasting for two and a half minutes after that."
