Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo has vowed to continue his recruitment drive following the summer arrivals of Suso and Ian Black.
Laszlo aims to bolster his squad further as the Hungarian looks forward to his second season at Tynecastle.
"We must begin to work and try to quickly form a competitive team," Laslo told the Hearts website.
"I don't like to take players at the last minute but the important thing is that, from Monday, we are together."
Laszlo also said welcoming back Jose Goncalves to Tynecastle was like signing a new player, but the Portuguese international must earn his place.
The Portuguese U21 international has returned to the Edinburgh club after his season-long loan with Nuremberg.
"Jose is like a new player but nobody gets a free letter to the team," said Laszlo.
"He must show his talent and find his place.
"It is important to bring quality to the team. If you do that, you have a chance to play for me. If you don't, you must look for an individual sport."
Midfielder Black, 24, joined Hearts after signing a pre-contract agreement last December.
Spanish winger Jesus Manuel Santana Abreu, also 24, signed a three-year contract with Hearts following his release by Tenerife.
